#2 This year it was all love for me, but in a most unexpected way!
The Best Mother's Day
On March 21, 2016 I officially began business with my daughter as K&L Floral Design. We've been learning, buying flowers, planting plants, and making bouquets almost daily since then.
This past week we received almost a dozen orders for Mother's Day weekend. I was very excited!
We kicked things off on Friday afternoon, rested up Friday night, and then hit the ground running Saturday morning...(We did have to take a break for a soccer game but I stopped at Home Depot on the way there, and after the game we foraged some filler flowers from around the fields, so it turned into a work trip. :) )
The flower-filled work carried over into Sunday morning, and I made my last delivery that afternoon after church. Phew!!!
So, how was a Mother's Day weekend filled with work, work, work the best Mother's Day ever???
- I had no time to think about myself. Some of the worst Mother's Days I've had are ones when I've had huge expectations and thought mostly of what I thought I deserved...self-focus ruined these days for me.
- I got to spend the time with my children working along side me. They helped me forage flowers at the soccer field, Lottie helped me pick out flowers at Home Depot, they all fetched and carried things, and they all watched the bouquets take form and encouraged me greatly with their words of affirmation. The best help...I love my loving kids.
- Even though IV was working all weekend himself, he took the time to sincerely offer to help me get things done...and he did help. I'm VERY thankful for a supportive, encouraging, and ever-loving husband.
So, even though I ended the weekend by sending my husband off to spend the night fighting crime, and sending a couple of fighting kids to bed early...nothing could beat the good gifts of the weekend.
12 I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one’s lifetime; 13 moreover, that every man who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor
—it is the gift of God. Ecclesiates 3.Thankful. And remembering this...
Psalm 127 Unless the Lord builds the house,
They labor in vain who build it;
Unless the Lord guards the city,
The watchman keeps awake in vain.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early,
To retire late,
To eat the bread of painful labors;
For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep.3 Behold, children are a gift of the Lord,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.
5 How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;
They will not be ashamed
When they speak with their enemies in the gate.
I hope you had a good Mother's Day weekend, but even if you didn't, please know that I feel your pain, and remember this...
